It is that time of the year again, that time where I start counting down the days until I return to Iceland for the amazing mid-Fall (that feels a lot like Winter) festival: Iceland Airwaves.
In case this is the first time you are here, I count down to the festival by featuring an Icelandic artist that will be performing at this year’s festival every Monday leading up to October 30th, the day I depart to go to Reykjavík. You can check out the schedule here.
Iceland Airwaves is an epic festival that takes place in Reykjavík, Iceland. Reykjavík is the capital city, it is pretty small but actually contains almost half of the entire country’s population. It is filled with cute, brightly-coloured houses, and surrounded by a bay (the ocean) and in sight of a beautiful mountain range across the inlet.
Every Fall the festival invites many Icelandic and some foreign bands to play in their city. It promotes tourism and gives music lovers a great chance to discover great Icelandic music and music from around the world; although it is worth mentioning that it seems like most foreign groups end up being bands from Canada, because we love, love Iceland and Iceland love, loves us!
Feel free to check out some posts from Airwaves ’12 here.
Here is a pretty rad playlist of this year’s artists that Iceland Airwaves has put together for us, and tune in next week for the first feature Icelandic artist (who will it be!?):
