Music On TV: Regina Spektor in ‘Orange is the New Black’

Orange is the new Black

Orange is the New Black is a new show that came out exclusively on Netflix recently. So if you don’t have Netflix, then well, you’re missing out.

The series is created by Jenji Kohan (Weeds) about a middle-class white woman going to prison for a crime she committed over a decade ago when she was in her post-college experimental phase. It is comedic at times as well as touching as a series that is about finding yourself in a place where ‘time stands still’.

Which is where we come to Regina Spektor… Kohan asked Spektor to create a song for the series opening credits. She came up with the song You’ve Got Time, and Kohan recruited actual ex-cons to pose for the camera to create an opening montage of ex-prisoner’s faces.
