Friday night started out with a trip to The Garrison to see the much talked about new band on the streets of TO, Beliefs. I definitely wanted to catch them and see what all the buzz was about.
This band definitely needs to have some more practise sessions, they haven’t quite mastered the art of synchronization and working together to create a solid track. The vocals could use a little work too. Don’t get me wrong, I thought they were good, but I left feeling a little bit like I wished I had gone to see Data Romance on the other side of town.
Beach Day hails from Hollywood, Florida, and this was their first time ever performing in Toronto. I gotta say the lead singer, Kimmy Drake, knows how to seduce a crowd. She has that ‘star factor’ as cheesy as that sounds.
The group itself is made up of two hotties and a boy on drums. They harness that vintage 60s beach/surf rock genre which is perfect in this hot/humid summer weather.
This was, hands down, the best show I went to during NXNE. Surprisingly, because I am not really into dancing, Ryan Hemsworth blew my mind. Even better, the entire crowd around me was ecstatic and there wasn’t a single negative person in the crowd – Okay – They were probably all on MDMA…
Left this show drenched in sweat without a regret.
