CMW 2013: BOY, Chloe Charles, and More…

Boy

Now it’s time for some girl power!

Here are some of the most awesome ladies I saw perform at CMW 2013:

BOY

BOY are a female duo from Deustcheland (Germany). They were performing for the Reeperbahn Festival Showcase at the El Mocambo. I saw them briefly in Iceland and was looking forward to seeing them again.

They had a bit of a rough start with some technical difficulties, no fault of their own, but after that it was one huge love-in. Like sitting around a campfire, people legit sat cross legged around the stage while BOY serenaded us with their sweet acoustics and voice.

Chloe Charles

If you haven’t become a fan of Chloe yet it is about time you jump on board. She has recently been featured on the Rolling Stone (Germany) website, mentioned as one of the top 10 female guitarists of 2012 by Guitar World Magazine, and was mentioned as one of the top 5 breakthrough Canadian artists by Billboard.

She played a tight set and brought out a lot of emotion in the crowd when she dedicated a song to her late father. Everyone got up and cheered and applauded her emotional performance.

Groenland

Another band from Montréal. An indie-pop band with a full ensemble. They took the stage after BOY, a hard position to be in!

Sóley

I saw this girl in Iceland last year. She plays toned-down, bare bones melodies with a sweet, sweet voice. I caught her for a bit at the Iceland Airwaves Showcase that was PACKED with fans of Iceland. See you at Airwaves this year?
